Peterhead Academy Pupils are the Perfect Mix

It was our pleasure to welcome nine fourth and fifth year Peterhead Academy pupils to the hotel today, as part of the Foundation Apprenticeship in Hospitality.

The Foundation Apprenticeship aims to prepare students to enter careers in the Hospitality sector and is delivered via school and employer partnerships.

The visit was facilitated by Developing the Young Workforce; the government body established to foster relationships between employers and the education system, to promote contextualised learning opportunities and inspire the young workforce, helping young people to find fulfilling careers.

The aim of today’s visit was to enhance the group’s understanding of the various functions that exist within a hotel. Staff from our kitchen, food and beverage, housekeeping, events, reception, marketing and management teams were all on hand to offer insight to their job roles before the group were given the opportunity to roll their sleeves up and sample some hands-on activities.

Peterhead Academy Visit - Mocktail Making

During the session, pupils completed a variety of tasks, including making choux pastry with our chef and mocktails with our resident mixologist. It was fantastic to see such keen participants, already showing such an interest in, and awareness of, our industry and its services.

During a time that there is a recognised skill shortage in the Hospitality industry it’s more vital than ever to nurture the potential of our next generation; encouraging fresh ideas and talent and guaranteeing sustainable career opportunities for the young workforce.

In the future, we hope to run similar events again and to engage further with the Peterhead Academy community.
